I don’t know where the witty, soulful, jazzy singer Rebecca Hart came up with her band name, The Sexy Children, but I do know that she plays a tight set.  In fact, she sold out Joe’s Pub in her first appearance there in February.  And that, for those that don’t know, is one of the elite venues in the city that is damn near impossible to break into for the first time.  Rebecca is a multi-talented artist who has also starred in several plays, including her self-penned Jazz Desert, which I enjoyed thoroughly.  Before I get off the point, Rebecca Hart & The Sexy Children are playing a free set this Saturday 4/11/09 at BAMCafe in Fort Greene at 9PM.  If you see a guy in crutches, that’s me, come say hi.  See you out there…

Something is about to hatch - NLX's third CD, Bitch Get Fit

NLX, or Natasha Alexandra, is set to release her anxiously-awaited-by-many-including-me (phew!) third CD, Bitch Get Fit, at Rockwood Music Hall this Thursday, 4/2/09, from 9-11PM. 

If you recall, NLX was included in my Top Ten Gigs of 2008.  “Bitch Get Fit”, by the way, stands for “Get With It.”  You can read all about her upcoming CD release and more at her blog, titled none other than, of course, Bitch Get Fit.  She is simply an amazing piano-led singer-songwriter with in-your-face and introspective lyrics.  You must go check out this special 2-hour event at my favorite music venue of all time, Rockwood.

Sarah Lentz is putting out her first CD in a f ew years, and I have loved every effort she put out before, so I am glad to see she is back at it.  She produces great piano-led music.  Her new album is aptly titled Begin Again.  Look for a CD review right here on MeetNowLive in the coming weeks.  Her CD release party is at Public Assembly in Williamsburg this Saturday starting at 7PM with Kelly McRae kicking off the festivities.  Go check it out and support local music!  Come back here and give us your comments on the show.  See you out there…

OK, so, the Harlem Shakes probably don’t need an introduction.  They have toured with Vampire Weekend, Beirut, and Deerhoof and opened for bands as big as The Arctic Monkeys.  The band is just back from SXSW and is ready to drop their new CD, Technicolor Health, on you this Thursday, 3/26/09, via their CD Release Party at Music Hall of Williamsburg.  Tickets are a mere ten bucks, so get your asses over there!  And come back here and let us know what you thought of the show.  See you out there….
